Sunday Morning Worship Service 10:00 AM // Worship Center
The pinnacle of the week comes when the body of a local church gathers as one, an assembly of the saints meeting on the first day of the week, Sunday. Following the pattern of the early church, we convene to consider the truths of God’s Word as they are read, explained, and applied. We also assemble to corporately pray to the Lord who is our Master, as well as give to the needs of the saints and the ministry of the church. We also unite in the ordinances of the Lord’s table and baptism and in the singing of music that exalts God. Being a consistent participant in this “main event” of church life is deeply encouraging, vitally important, and biblically mandated.
Our primary time of corporate worship is Sunday morning. We welcome you for a time of singing, reading Scripture, prayer, and expository preaching from the Word of God. Please join us as we worship together and are edified in the teaching of God’s Word. If you are visiting, please take time to fill out the Welcome Tear-Off Tab in the bulletin.
Nursery care is available and encouraged but not required for children through age three. We do ask that children not be permitted to remain an on-going distraction in the worship service. SCBC also has video-fed rooms for nursing mothers and even noise-prone toddlers that you can take your children to. The worship service audio is also fed to a large portion of the building.
We hope you will join us this Sunday!
Sunday Morning Discipleship Hour 8:45 AM // Location Varies (Usually Silver Beach Room)
Start your Lord’s Day with an infusion of biblical truth and genuine encouragement. At 8:45 AM we gather for an hour of teaching and interaction centered on the cross of Christ and the truths of Scripture. Next to the Corporate Worship Service, the Discipleship Hour is a primary avenue for you to plug in, be blessed, bless others, and set yourself up for serious spiritual growth.
Adults choose from a few electives each quarter on everything from the major components of Systematic Theology and biblical book studies to practical instruction for godly marriages and families. Take the time to learn about our SCBC Education Plan and how you can potentially participate in the comprehensive array of 23 core courses the plan intends to offer within a six-year time period. Plus there are a number of additional offerings beyond the core.
Children ages 2 through the 6th grade meet in classes specially designed for them utilizing Answers in Genesis curriculum. Everyone aged two years and above is invited to plug into a class.
Herman is back for round two! After our fly-over look at the art and science of Bible interpretation last quarter, we move into the nuts and bolts this spring, covering literary genres, grammar, syntax, language, culture, and more on our quest to find the Author’s meaning. We’ll use these to frame our theology, and ultimately draw from that a personal and practical application of God’s truth that will push us towards increasing holiness. Pastor Curtis once again leads this class for adults 7th grade and up.
Seeking His Face: The Practice of Biblical Prayer
We have 24/7 access to the throne of grace where our Savior is at the right hand of God, interceding on our behalf. Yet, if you were to survey those of us in the church, the area in which we are most spiritually lacking would be prayer. This shouldn’t be so! In this class, Pastor Andrew walks us through a biblical understanding of and practical approaches to this spiritual discipline o that we can dedicate ourselves to a lifestyle of prayer. Class is open to all adults 7th grade and up.
Kids in grades K-4 will be taught from the Answers Bible Curriculum, which covers the entire Bible chronologically and provides a thorough understanding of the authority and primary teachings of Scripture. All ages will be equipped to defend the Bible and become conformed to the image of Christ as they apply God’s Word to their lives. Concepts include the trustworthiness of Scripture, the attributes of God, His plan of redemption, apologetics, and more! 5th and 6th graders will work through a special curriculum preparing them to jump into adult classes from 7th grade on. Contact Rob Freeman for more info on these classes.
We introduced a special transitions class for children preparing to move into adult electives. “Essential Truths” follows our 5th & 6th grade class, but is open to any kids ready for the next step in Discipleship Hour, as it will utilize catechism-based instruction to give kids a foundational understanding of the major doctrines that form our adult Education Plan. Placement into this class is entirely at the parents’ discretion and they are welcome to come and take in the material with their kids on Sundays at 8:45 AM. Contact John K. for more info.
Sunday Evening Family Life Service
We meet most Sunday evenings in the Silver Beach Room. It’s a small, theater-like auditorium that permits us to sit in close proximity to the rest of the body. You’ll enjoy the sweet, lingering fellowship of this Sunday night gathering and find it a fantastic way to wrap up your Sunday and launch into the work week “full” from all that the Lord has served up. Some say that participating in the evening service is key to getting rapidly plugged into life at SCBC. At the very least, we highly encourage you to join us at 6:00 PM and ask that you pray that a high view of God will reign supreme even as we enjoy this more relaxed time together.
Winter 2018 Family Life Series The Seven Last Words of Christ
“The Seven Last Words of Christ” has been a beloved theme for our Good Friday services for many years, and this quarter, we are excited to expand what have traditionally been seven-minute thoughts into full-length Family Life Service messages. You won’t want to miss digging deeper into familiar phrases like “Father forgive them,” “I am thirsty,” and “It is finished”…simple words full of rich insight into the nature and work of our saving God! Join us most Sunday nights at 6:00 for this series (check our calendar to see when we break for Hospitality Sundays), our monthly Birthday Bank, singing, and fellowship! Childcare is provided for those under age 4.
